Deep Mountain is a spiritual retreat center, which is open to all cultural religious and spiritual traditions. the Center is Located on 300 wooded acres In Clayton County, at Communia, Iowa, 7 miles southeast of Elkader on the Turkey River in the hills of Northeast Iowa known as "Little Switzerland". Deep Mountain Retreat Center offers its year-round retreat and practice facility to Individuals, couples, families and groups for silence and meditation, reflection, re-creation, rest, restoration, renewal and rediscovery of spirit Although simple, it is a complete facility with kitchen, showers, bathrooms, chapel/meditation center, sleeping and meeting space, Reservations are on a first call basis for private or shared retreats. Private retreats require a three-week advance notice. There is a nominal daily contribution.

Inspired by Buddhist and Christian traditions of contemplation and silence-Zen, Catholic and Quaker-Deep Mountain was established In 1975 by a small community of the spirit-Communia-which along with the extended circle of Friends of Deep Mountain, continues to meet twice monthly for meditation and sharing and which builds, supports and maintains Deep Mountain, its developing physical facility and its two full-time caretakers. Monthly work retreats at Deep Mountain are also open to Individuals and groups interested in participating in 1-3 day scheduled programs of work, meditation, reflection, and sharing.
